The RSS Long-Term Campaign<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\">The name \u201cBharat\u201d campaign is not new. It has been a consistent ideological demand of the RSS for decades. The RSS has tagged the term \u201cBharat\u201d into the title of many of its affiliates.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\">In March 2025, RSS national general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale reignited the debate, questioning why institutions like the Reserve Bank of India or the Constitution should still carry English names. \u201cDesh ka naam Bharat hai, toh Bharat hi Bolo. India toh angrezi naam hai,\u201d he declared.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\">Hosabale linked the issue to a broader need for\u00a0<strong>\u201cdecolonisation of mind,\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0arguing that British rule left a deep imprint that continues to shape Indian consciousness. He cited historical instances of cultural erasure, from the destruction of temples and gurukuls during Mughal invasions to the imposition of English as a dominant language.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><strong>The RSS Argument:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\">\u201cBharat\u201d is derived from two words: \u201cBha\u201d (light) and \u201cRata\u201d (devoted) \u2013 meaning a land devoted to the pursuit of knowledge and enlightenment<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\">\u201cIndia\u201d allegedly lacks meaning; even the Oxford Dictionary associates it with definitions that some claim are demeaning<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><strong>2. Jaishankar:<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cIndia is Bharat. It is there in the constitution. When you say Bharat, it evokes a sense, a meaning and a connotation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><strong>Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan:<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cThis should have happened earlier.
